Welcome to the website of Alex Hughes Cartoons and Caricatures. I'm a cartoonist and caricaturist from Birmingham in the UK. Scattered across these pages are examples of my work, published and unpublished, from political cartoons to personal caricatures, comic strips to magazine illustrations. Week 32 - Thabo Mbeki (the Five of Spades)  This week it's South African President Thabo Mbeki, who this week shocked AIDS/HIV campaigners across the world by sacking his Deputy Health Minister, Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge. Madala-Routledge was responsible for the large-scale roll-out of antiretrovirals across South Africa, a scheme opposed by both Mbeki and her superior, Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, who favoured, amongst other things the use of the beetroot as a cure for AIDS. Week 18 - Lord Browne (the 5 of Clubs)  Week 18, and it's time for another card. This time it's Lord Browne, the (now former) head of BP, who resigned this week following lying to court over a homosexual relationship (and subsquently allegations of misuse of BP funds), as revealed in the Mail on Sunday.
