Welcome to the website of Alex Hughes Cartoons and Caricatures. I'm a cartoonist and caricaturist from Birmingham in the UK. Scattered across these pages are examples of my work, published and unpublished, from political cartoons to personal caricatures, comic strips to magazine illustrations. Please feel free to have a good look around. My services are available for personal caricatures, on-the-spot caricature or any other cartoon, caricature or illustation work, and many of the cartoons on the site are available for sale. On this page I'll keep you up to date with news and developments, and elsewhere in this section there's a site map, the all-important frequently asked questions list, and a page of useful links.

Card-i-cature a week... Week 46 - Prince (10 of Diamonds)

Risking the censure of the small purple one, week 46 is the turn of the Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Prince, who this week started a campaign to rid the internet of any unauthorised images of himself, and anything else that vaguely refers to himself...

Card-i-cature a week... Week 4 - John Reid (and Illustration Friday - Red)

Well, this week it's the turn of John Reid, Home Secretary, who has been in the news a fair bit over a number of issues in the last few weeks.

Also, and a bit of a cheat really, this is my 'Illustration Friday' entry, the theme this week being Red (referring, of course, to the Hearts suit in the deck). For those of you coming to my site from Illustration Friday, I'd suggest you have a quick look at this page for more details of my 'Card-i-cature a week' project.

Card-i-cature a week... Saddam Hussein (the 10 of Spades)

And now I launch my new project for this year... I intend to draw a caricature of a personality in the news every week for the next 52 weeks. The twist being, they're going to be in the style of playing cards, the plan being that there'll be a full deck at the end of the year (OK, minus the jokers, but I might fit them in along the way).

So, to get the ball rolling, here's the first - the late Saddam Hussain, as the 10 of Spades:

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the plan is to theme the suits, so Hearts will be British Politics, Spades World Affairs, Diamonds Entertainment and Clubs everything else...

Edit: Blogger is playing up a bit, and for some inexplicable reason won't upload my image. I'll try again tomorrow... watch this space!

Edit:
All fixed now...

Excellent idea Alex! And a well executed first installment...so to speak. Like the idea of theming the suits too.
Please put me down for a couple of finished decks!
